HISTORY

From 1968 to the present day, over 50 years of research and innovation.

Erlab is founded by François Pierre Hauville. The first range of Captair filtering fume hoods is launched.

1968

Erlab establishes its research and development laboratory and builds its first 21,500 sq. ft. factory.

1972

Erlab begins to export its products worldwide. Major partnership agreements are signed in Japan and the USA.

1974

Erlab establishes a presence in the USA by creating Captair Inc., a production and sales unit in Boston.

1981

Erlab establishes a presence in Germany by creating a subsidiary, Captair GMBH, in Dusseldorf.

1985

The company builds an additional 43,000 sq. ft. production facility.

1988

Erlab establishes a presence in Malaysia so the company can select the best raw materials for the manufacture of filters using super activated carbon.

1993

François Pierre Hauville is named President of the Union of Mechanical Standardization (UNM 61). This committee is commissioned by AFNOR to create a standard for determining the performance criteria for a filtration fume hood.

1994

Erlab consolidates its three French facilities into one 75,000 sq. ft. site in Val de Reuil in Normandy, bringing together production, sales, and the research and development laboratory.

1995

The AFNOR NF X15-211 standard is published. It allows the performance of a filtration fume hood to be assessed according to strict criteria and requires manufacturers who use it to achieve a level of filtration higher than the requirements imposed by safety organizations. Today, it is still the reference standard in the field of filtration fume hoods.

1996

With a strong international presence, Erlab creates its first website, www.erlab-dfs.com, available in five languages. The site wins an award from the French Ministry of Foreign Trade in 1998.

1997

Erlab expands its Captair range, creating the new Captair Store (filtering storage cabinets), Captair Bio (PCR workstations) and Captair Flow (filtering clean air workstations) ranges.

1998

Erlab establishes its subsidiary, Asura Filters, dedicated to the manufacture and sale of high-performance super activated carbon filters.

1999

Erlab expands its international operations and establishes new representative offices in Italy and Spain.

2000

Erlab establishes a representative office in the United Kingdom and launches the www.asurafilters.com website, which is available in five languages and includes an online quotation service.

2001

In response to the shipment of packages laced with Anthrax in the USA, Erlab launches Captair Pyramid, a solution for opening suspicious packages. It is an immediate success with forensic units and government agencies.

2002

Erlab establishes the first network of authorized partners for the maintenance of filtered ventilation systems under the name of Asura Maintenance: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria.

2003

International development accelerates with Erlab China, a new 32,000 sq. ft. production and sales unit, ensuring the development of operations on the Asian continent. Erlab also establishes a presence in Spain with its subsidiary, Erlab S.L.

2004

Erlab revolutionizes the world of protection against laboratory chemical hazards by creating GreenFumeHood, allowing fume extraction cupboard manufacturers to incorporate every aspect of Erlab technology: filtration, detection, and communication.

2008

Erlab Inc. moves into a new 86,000 sq. ft. building in Rowley (MA). This new location allows Erlab to develop GreenFumeHood in North America. Erlab creates Captair Flex, a new range of fume hoods with a modular filtration column, offering multiple protection solutions thanks to new Flex technology.

2009

Erlab China opens its second sales office in Guangzhou.

2010

Founder of Erlab in 1968 and inventor of the first laboratory filtering fume hood in 1970, François Pierre Hauville, passes away. Erlab China opens its third sales office in Beijing. Two new ranges, Captair Store filtering storage cabinets and Captair Flow filtering clean air enclosures, benefit from the Flex modular filtration column and a new ergonomic design. Just three years after its launch, more than 10 partners now provide fume cupboards fitted with GreenFumeHood technology to laboratories around the world: the USA, Japan, France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, and the UK.

2011

The new Captair Bio range of PCR enclosures benefit from Flex technology and a new ergonomic design. The Chinese JG/T385-2012 “ductless self-filtration enclosure” standard is published.

2012

Erlab China moves into a new 65,000 sq. ft. building. This new Asian production and sales unit obtains ISO 9001 certification.

2013

The Research and Development team moves into a new laboratory in Val de Reuil (France). Erlab launches HALO, a smart filtration module to treat chemical pollution and reduce the need to renew laboratory air.

2014

Erlab launches the first connected filtering fume hood in history at the Achema exhibition in Frankfurt. The new ranges Captair Smart fume cupboards and storage cabinets, the Halo air filtration system, and the Halo Sense pollution sensor showcase Erlab’s new SMART technology to the public.

2015

Erlab launches SMART technology for its Captair fume hoods: light-based communication offering an unprecedented level of safety. All devices are now connected.

2016

Erlab celebrates 50 years of research and development, which has helped it become a world leader in air filtration technology, with a presence across three continents.

2018

Erlab equips all its products with SMART technology.

2019

Building upon its success, Erlab opens a new 140,000 sq. ft. factory in China and doubles the surface area of its laboratory in Europe. VISION AND MISSION
Leader mondial de la filtration de l'air
From left to right : Antoine Hauville : Chief Operational Officer / Stéphane Hauville : Chief Executive Officer

Vision.

The harmful effects of air pollution on health are dangerously underestimated in all industrialized countries. The millions of tons of chemical agents produced by scientific, medical, and industrial research can have carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic effects. As they are invisible, preventing their release into both working environments and the atmosphere as well as improving their detection have become public health issues.

Mission.

To do everything possible to enable laboratories worldwide to reduce their toxic gas emissions to zero, both inside and out, through more reliable techniques for zero-release filtration, detection, and real-time reporting.

Erlab’s core mission:
The highest level of safety for all.

To respond to its rapid development and to promote all the benefits of filtration, Erlab has redefined its market vision and mission statement for the years to come.
COMMUNICATION

You can breathe.

The new tagline affirms Erlab’s position as global leader in air filtration technology.
It captures the ultimate benefit of all Erlab products: the guarantee of breathing completely pure air both inside and outside the laboratory. Guaranteed safety, working comfort, wellbeing, and peace of mind for all users inside the laboratory, as well as all those connected to its external environment. From 2021 onwards, the new logo and tagline will appear on all Erlab products, packaging, signage, and communications, across all continents.
